Crime and Safety

In smaller towns safety comes first, and Alpine's crime rate is well below the national average. There are roughly 27 nonviolent crimes per 1,000 people in Alpine, a figure less than half of the national average. However, the really impressive statistic is the violent crime rate, which is almost non-existent. Each year only 3 violent crimes are committed per 1,000 people, proving that there is a place where residents don't need to lock their doors at night. Alpine's safety is due not only to the city's small population, but also to the strong community spirit that prevails here. The police department has a good handle on the area, and by all accounts crime is far from a major issue to local residents. With such a friendly and safe community, the residents of Alpine can enjoy their great art and recreation without worrying about crime.

This is a message from the Police Chief:

Alpine prides itself on being one of the safest communities of its size in Texas and the nation. Alpine Police Department enjoys the privilege of keeping Alpine safe and working to enhance the quality of our community through our proactive policing efforts and the quality service of our dedicated and professional staff.
