How to Get to Alpine Alpine has retained its small town atmosphere and friendly attitude in the heart of an unspoiled wilderness because of its distance from the larger cities and metropolitan areas of Texas. Getting to Alpine and Big Bend Country can take some planning, but those who visit are more than compensated for their efforts. By Road By far the most popular mode of travel to Alpine is by road. Hundreds of thousands of visitors travel to the area by car, truck, motorcycle, SUV and RV every year. By Train Amtrak makes its only regular stop between El Paso and Del Rio in Alpine, coming through town three times a week both east and west bound. By Aircraft At this time, there is no regular commercial flights into Alpine. The municipal airport in Alpine services small, private aircraft. For more info about Alpine's airport, call 432-837-5929. There is a charter service, Basin Aviation, out of Midland-Odessa that provides public transportation to and from the respective airports. The closest commercial airports are in Midland-Odessa and El Paso. Many visitors from far away fly into either of these airports and rent a vehicle to drive to Alpine.
